Japanese Medicine Boxes

A pair of Japanese black lacquer medicine boxes with copper lettering of the owner, Seinsuke. Medicine salesman would carry the boxes on each end of a pole resting on his shoulders and go door to door selling his wares. Meiji period, circa 1890s. Bound with blue rope and adorned with hand made copper hardware.
