Japanese Choba Dansu

Japanese choba dansu (merchant's chest). Meiji period, circa 1880s. Originally used by Japanese merchants to store their documents, abacus and other accounting accessories. Made of solid kiri wood (paulownia) with beautiful grain and original hand forged iron hardware. Place in an entryway or use as a bedside chest.
