This antique Japanese kitchen chest from Kyoto was used for storing food in the middle section and chopsticks and spoons in the drawers. Originally the upper half of a 2 section mizuya, now reinforced with a new wood top. Makes an attractive buffet for the dining room with sliding doors and drawers to store accessories or place in your living room beneath a flat screen tv. Hinoki (cypress) wood body with keyaki (zelkova) wood drawers, sliders and butterfly slider door inserts. Meiji period, circa 1885.
